We embarked on a kitchen remodel in this classic Spanish bungalow, high in the hills of Los Angeles’s Echo Park neighborhood, and added a brand new staircase connecting the first floor to the lower level. We squared off the kitchen space to eliminate a bump in the wall, and replaced 2 windows on the sink wall so that they match in height and placement.  The big design element here was the addition of a hand-painted checkerboard pattern on the brand-new oak floor boards.  Custom Cabinetry was painted in a beautiful Farrow & Ball blue, and the island was topped with a reclaimed wood counter.  The other counters were clad in a dreamy quartzite.  We also remodeled the Hall Bathroom on this floor, getting rid of an awkward soffit, and replacing the dated tub with a walk-in zellige tiled shower.  Brightly patterned wallpaper in blue makes the walls pop!  Decor in the Living Room and a “new” vintage Front Door makes the space look like it should have the day it was built!
