The Art Gallery Kitchen — Julia Chasman Design

For the 2020 One Room Challenge on Instagram, I redecorated my own kitchen during the quarantine, relying on simple practical fixes like paint, trim, hardware and lighting. I kept all the existing appliances, upgrading only the faucet on the kitchen sink. As a theme I chose an art gallery, using my deep collection of vintage paintings, posters, school charts and advertising art, and took advantage of the room’s high ceilings and abundant natural light.

The kitchen wall color is Nile River from Behr Paint, and the scalloped ceiling trim was ordered from Wood Craft Cutouts on Etsy, and spray-painted bright gold by Rustoleum. Cabinets were painted Simply White by Benjamin Moore, with a faux bois finish on the uppers. Cabinet hardware from Hickory House, and mercury glass pendants from Ballard Designs. Scalloped lamp shade by Matilda Goad and scalloped jute rug from Tate and Darby. Patterned lamp shades by Schumacher. Black matte faucet from Delta. Marble French Island stand from Crate & Barrel, and almost everything else vintage collectibles.
